Barbotine pitcher, Poincaré bust
Superb majolica pitcher in the form of a man's bust. This is the bust of Poincaré.
Henri Poincaré was a French mathematician, theoretical physicist, and philosopher of science, born on April 29, 1854, in Nancy and died on July 17, 1912, in Paris. He is considered one of the last great universal scholars.
Each pitcher from the Onnaing factory was designated by a number and an evocative name: Le Député (The Deputy), L'Hôtelier (The Hotelier), Le Coq Gaulois (The Gallic Rooster)...
And since they were primarily utilitarian objects, their capacities were specified: from 0.90 liters for Le Canard (The Duck), to 1.90 liters for La Taverne (The Tavern)!
