Very large painting of the judgment of Jesus Christ by Pontius Pilate, this is act 1 of the Stations of the Cross of Christianity. This large painting is exceptional for its details of the scene painted before us. Jesus is overwhelmed and condemned to crucifixion. We see Roman legionnaires armed with their spears and Jesus bound by ropes to be led to stage 2 where he will have to carry his cross. In detail, we see a young woman washing the hands of Pontius Pilate, and it is from this ancient scene that the proverbial expression "wash one's hands of it" comes. This superb 19th-century painting, originating from a church, is very luminous with ochre tones, and its large size is rare: 156 CM X 115 CM with its original gilded oak frame. This work is ideal for decorating a large house or a private chapel.
It is a large framed oil on canvas, with visible repairs on the back.
Dimensions: 156cm x 115cm (61.4'' x 45.6'')
