Painting by Jules Albert Mignon (1875 - 1943) of the Port of Antwerp.
Oil on framed panel, signed lower right.
It depicts the Port of Antwerp in Belgium, its pier, its harbor, and the Steen with old streetlights in the foreground and a steaming steamboat in the background.
Many passengers from across the Old Continent, particularly from Germany and Eastern Europe, with tickets in hand, poor among the poor, seeking the American dream, converged on Antwerp to board Red Star Line ships, in 3rd class, bound for New York, Boston, Philadelphia, or Canada, via Southampton or Cherbourg.
Jules Albert Mignon was born in 1875 and was a student of Delaroche. Works by this painter are present in the museums of Argentan and Angers.
