Wine, in small doses, is often an ally of seduction, love, if not eroticism. Don't we speak of the intoxication of love and the intoxication of the senses?
Dutch painters were the first to illustrate the role of wine in seduction in the 16th century. Works celebrating the five senses (a theme dear to the classics) do not escape this novelty, neither with Jan Breughel the Elder's "The Sense of Taste", with a more intellectual approach, nor with Simon de Vos's "Allegory of the Five Senses". In the latter painting, the five senses are represented by the evocation of a joyful company, and if taste is represented by wine bottles, sight is by lovers casting a bewildered glance.

The dog is traditionally a symbol of fidelity; in painting, it is depicted in a hunting scene or accompanied by a woman. In the latter case, it can be linked to marital fidelity.
In the mid-17th century in the United Provinces, the intimacy of the home where the woman goes about her daily occupations became a new type of painting among the variety that already existed in this region with its developed artistic trade. The pet began to attract attention at this time and in France at the end of the 18th century, the philosopher Rousseau recognized their sensitive nature.

The small dog was very present in 17th-century Dutch genre scenes. This small breed of dog, also known today as kookerhondje, was the ideal companion for an increasingly wealthy population, and when genre painting appeared, it joined pictorial compositions. Artists emphasized the intimate bond between the dog and its masters, but also between the painted scene and the animal.
