A sublime statue of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, made around 1885 by the prestigious Mayer & Cie manufactory in Munich, then recognized as the Royal Institute of Christian Art under the reign of King Ludwig II of Bavaria.
This exceptional work bears the monogram “R” of the sculptor Johann Nepomuk Roth (1841–1899), a major artist of the Mayer house at the end of the 19th century.

With an impressive height of 138 cm, the Virgin stands on an original octagonal base, treading on the serpent and the crescent moon — symbols of purity and spiritual victory.
Her gentle, collected face, clasped hands, and the crown of roses adorning her hair evoke celestial peace. The celestial blue and gold drapery, with its original polychromy, shines with a sober and sacred light.

This piece is not only a masterpiece of religious art but also a majestic decorative sculpture, capable of enhancing a classic interior, a historic home, or a place of meditation.

Historical Details

The Mayer & Cie workshop was founded in 1847 by Joseph-Gabriel Mayer. From 1882, it was distinguished as the Royal Institute of Christian Art for the excellence of its religious creations. In 1892, it received pontifical recognition, becoming the preferred supplier to major churches in Europe.
The Mayer house combined the talents of sculptors, gilders, and painters in a rare spirit of artistic unity.

Johann Nepomuk Roth, a Bavarian sculptor trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, worked for Mayer & Cie from the 1870s. His Virgins are distinguished by the serenity of their gaze, anatomical precision, and the luminous spirituality of their presence.
